Composition

1 ml of the drug contains:
cabergoline — 0.05 mg

Description

The solution is colorless or light yellow, transparent.

Pharmacological properties

Cabergoline is a derivative of ergoline. The mechanism of action is a direct interaction with the dopamine receptor on the lactotropic cells of the pituitary gland, which leads to inhibition of the secretion of prolactin by the pituitary gland, the main hormone of lactogenesis. A decrease in prolactin levels prevents lactation and contributes to the disappearance of clinical signs of false pregnancy in bitches and cats.
After oral administration, peak inhibition of prolactin secretion is reached after 4-8 hours and lasts for several days, depending on the dose. The antiprolactin effect of cabergoline is longer than that of metergoline, bromocriptine, and pergolide.
Cabergoline is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and reaches peak plasma concentrations within 0.5-2 hours. The elimination half-life in dogs is 19 hours. Food intake does not affect the absorption and distribution of cabergoline.
The concentration of cabergoline after using the drug for a week is 2-3 times higher than the concentration after its single use.
The maximum therapeutic effect is observed after 48 hours, the effect after a single application lasts up to 14 days, to achieve a longer therapeutic effect, the drug must be used for 4-6 days.
It is excreted from the body within 20 days mainly in the form of metabolites: 22% in urine, 60% in feces; less than 4% remains in the urine unchanged.
The binding of cabergoline to plasma proteins is 40-42% and does not depend on its plasma concentration.

Indication

Used in bitches and cats to eliminate symptoms of false pregnancy (pseudopregnancy) and to stop lactation when weaning puppies and kittens.

Contraindication

Do not administer to animals with hypersensitivity to the active ingredient of the drug, pregnant bitches and cats, lactating females during the period of feeding offspring, animals with renal and hepatic insufficiency, hypotension and productive animals.

Method of administration and doses

The drug is administered orally with food or directly to the root of the tongue at a dose of 0.1 ml (5 mcg of cabergoline) per 1 kg of body weight, once a day. The course is 4-6 days.
If lactation does not disappear or starts again after the end of the treatment course, the course can be repeated.
