Description
Compound
1 ml of the preparation contains the active ingredient:
cabergoline - 50 mcg.
Excipients: propylene glycol, dicaprylate/dicaprate.
Pharmaceutical form
Colourless transparent solution.
Pharmacological properties
ATC-vet classification code: QG02CB - prolactin inhibitors.
Cabergoline, which is part of the drug, is an ergoline derivative and acts as a dopamine receptor agonist, which leads to inhibition of prolactin secretion by the pituitary gland, the main hormone of lactogenesis. Reducing prolactin levels prevents lactation and helps to eliminate clinical signs of false pregnancy in bitches and cats.
After oral administration, peak suppression of prolactin secretion is achieved after 4-8 hours and continues for several days, depending on the dose.
Cabergoline is excreted from the body in the form of metabolites, mainly in feces (60%) and, to a lesser extent, in urine (22%).
Application
ANTILACT is used in bitches and cats to stop lactation for clinical reasons (for example, during the period of early weaning of puppies and kittens) and to stop false pregnancy.
Dosage
The drug is administered orally with food or directly to the root of the tongue at a dose of 0.1 ml (3 drops, equivalent to 5 mcg of cabergoline per kg of body weight) per 1 kg of animal body weight once a day for 4-6 days.
Contraindications
Do not use in case of individual sensitivity of the animal to cabergoline.
Do not use in pregnant bitches or cats.
Do not use in lactating females during the period of feeding offspring.
Do not use in animals with renal or hepatic insufficiency.
Do not use in animals with hypotension.
SIDE EFFECTS
In recommended doses, it is well tolerated. In the first two days of taking the drug, side effects in the form of vomiting, anorexia, lethargy are rarely possible, which stop on their own and do not require discontinuing the drug. In case of uncontrollable vomiting, the drug is discontinued.
Very rarely, animals sensitive to ergoline derivatives may experience allergic reactions in the form of itching, swelling, dermatitis and urticaria, which stop after discontinuing the drug and using antihistamines.
warning
Do not use with dopamine antagonists (eg, metoclopramide) or with drugs that have hypotensive effects.
If one or more doses of the drug are missed, treatment should be resumed as soon as possible at the planned dosage and according to the schedule of administration.
